The ABC’s for a Great Year!

A Art- Children will participate in Art class on Thursday.

B Birthdays- We love to celebrate each other’s special day. We will celebrate your child’s day on or around their actual birthday. Please contact me as to when you would like to celebrate it. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate it in June.

C Communication-Communication between home and school is very important. If you feel the need to talk to me, please call the school, send me a note, or email me. I will get back with you as soon as I can. Make sure your child has his/her folder everyday, as that will be our communication.

D Daily Attendance- If your child is out of the classroom, please send in a note upon his or her return to avoid an illegal absence. If they are sick, please keep them home until they are better. I can always catch them up on any missed materials!

E Emergency Forms and Health Forms- Please make sure to return the Emergency and Health forms to me as soon as possible. It is important to have all information and phone numbers up to date in case the need arises.

F Field Trips- We are very fortunate to go field trip this year. A permission slip will be required for the trip. If we do not receive a permission slip, your child will not be allowed to go with the class. If you are interested in chaperoning please fill out the Parent Volunteer form that can be found in the elementary office.

G Good Times- We are going to have so much fun learning this year. We will learn through games, experiments, role-playing, and many other fun activities.

H Holiday Parties- The children will be participating in various parties throughout the school year.

I Independence- As the year progresses, my goal is to help encourage the children to gain responsibility and independence. While I am always here to help, please encourage your child to become independent with shoe tying, zipping their coats, etc.

J Jobs- The children are given classroom jobs to help foster independence and responsibility within the classroom.

K  Kindness - The children are expected to kind to one another.

L Library- The children will have library!.  They will be allowed to check out a book and return them by the next class.

M Music- Children will participate in Music a class.

N Newsletters- You will receive a newsletter/calendar to keep you informed of all the activities that we are doing in class.

O Outside- Weather permitting, I like to take the children out on the playground or for a walk. Please make sure your child has sneakers with them everyday. They may leave an extra pair in their cubby all year.

P Physical Education- Children will participate in Physical Education with Mrs. Damon.

Q   Questions- Please contact me if you have any questions or

concerns regarding your child’s education. I will make every effort to discuss your concerns.

R Restroom- There is a restroom in our classroom and children are encouraged to use it as needed.

S Smile box- I have a prize box in my classroom.  If your child makes me “smile” they could choose a prize from the “smilebox”.

T Take-Home Folders- Notes from the school or from me will come home in this folder. This folder needs to be checked every night and returned to school the next day.

U Units- We will study various themes and units this year. Please ask your child questions about what they are learning.

V Volunteers- I will be looking for volunteers to come in and help out.

W Your children will be encouraged and praised for all attempts and accomplishments in writing. Providing a risk-free environment is paramount to your child's progress in writing. If possible, please provide your child with writing tools, such as pencils, crayons, markers and paper at home.

X eXciting Visitors!

Y You -You can help to make your child feel successful this year by doing some of the following: Reading to your child is the single most important thing you can do. It encourages them to become good readers. Another important way to help your child is to discuss the school day with them. Ask questions like, “What did you learn today?”, “What did you work the hardest on?”, or “What are you getting better at”? These questions cause children to reflect on their learning which in turn helps them remember new information.

Z Zzzz…- Children will be tired at the end of the day!
